Beauty FAUX PAS! - Beauty Things I Am Rubbish At!

Hi all! I have been blogging for a few months now and I would usually write about outfits, makeup and new products I have purchased. I had my thinking cap on the other day with my journal open and pen in hand. I was feeling rather creative and I had a massive brainstorming session to see if I could come up with anything different. Today i'm going to talk about beauty things that I am ab-so-lutley RUBBISH at! Good topic eh? It'll give you a laugh if nothing else. Either that or you'll be sitting cringing and face-palming me. Whatever fits! Spread the blogger love and PLEASE tell me you do some of these things too, to make me feel a little better (haha)

1. The 'I put my lipstick on in a hurry look' - As some of you may know from my ranting and raving on my blog and Instagram, I LOVE red lipstick. Most of the time it works out well for me and I apply and wear the lipstick like your supposed to, like on your lips. There's always that one morning however when you snooze your alarm one too many times and now you have to get ready in half the time. You go to wherever you need to go, saying hi to people, talking to people, smiling at people, with lovely big red nashers. I was in town with my mum the other day and she said randomly after all the shopping had finished, "you know you've had lipstick all over your teeth since you came out of the house?" THANKS for that mother! My best friend goes one better and when I notice I have been walking about with red teeth all day and ask her why she didn't tell me. She proceeds to say something along the lines of "I didn't think to say" or '"it was too funny to tell you" So, yes, the hurried lipstick look is not attractive, check and DOUBLE CHECK those teeth before you go ANYWHERE!

2. I fell and cut my fringe - This is one for anyone with a fringe or bangs as I believe they are called in the US. I don't like to go to the hairdressers just to get my fringe cut, it's a waste of time and money right? Why would you do that when you can cut it yourself right? - WRONG. This one time my fringe was incredibly long and it was annoying me so once I had washed it I got my little comb and scissors, pretended to be hairdresser and gave it a little trim. All went well until I actually dried and styled my hair like normal. My fringe just boinggg-ed upwards and I was left with half my forehead on show. So not a good look. To make matters worse, my hair takes an age to grow so I had to wear my half-a-fringe up in a La Roux style quiff, fastened with a hair grip, until it grew down a bit. I now take extra caution when cutting my fringe myself!

3. Oompa Loopa style - Now this is one I know for a fact that no one can deny! ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and knuckles have all been that lovely shade of orange before haven't they? The worst culprit is build up fake tan as you can't see how much you are applying and you keep re-applying it as you convince yourself that you need more. The amount of times I've had to change my whole outfit to hide orange-y bits. What a mare. The worst time was when I was getting ready for an important job interview, I pulled on my dress and blazer and my wrists and hands looks as if they were part of someone else's body and they were a completely different colour from my face! I spent the entire interview trying to hide my hands, which is difficult for me as I tend to 'talk with my hands' in interviews. That said, I looked incredibly awkward, and with THAT said, I didn't get the job. (boo)

4. Who even looks like Pocahontas anyway? - I laugh at all them beauty adverts you see of people with perfect hair that just flows in the wind, not a knot in sight. If you've ever seen the film Pocahontas you'll get my drift. I spend a good while styling my hair for a day or night out, I step out the front door and a hugeee gust of wind hits me face on. hair = ruined. No amount of super hold hairspray or hair cement will tame my hair, it's wild. As if isn't bad enough, I always seem to have lovely sticky lipgloss on at the time and my whole head of hair gets stuck to my lips. Sure everyone loves the cavewoman look!

They are my 4 main points, there are other people in the same boat right? or am I a lone ranger.. *sadface*

Here's some other points...

5. Body cream that won't soak in, no matter how much you rub and rub at it, it just doesn't go anywhere! Hello greasy clothes.

6. That one perfume that smells like toilet cleaner but you don't want to dispose of it as it wasn't cheap. Actually, I have a good few perfumes like that. Not attractive, keep your distance.

7. Gorgeous foundation lines around your jawbone or down your neck. This is one that happened me when I was in school and I first started to wear makeup. Fortunately since then I have mastered the art of 'blending'

8. Squeezing that spot and making it 100 times worse and having to stand for 10 minutes with a hanky pressed against it to stop the bleeding before any concealer can be applied on top of it.

9. Nipping your top eyelid and/or pulling half your eyelashes out when using an eyelash curler AFTER you apply your mascara. This means your mascara is still wet on your lashes and they stick to the curler. Mega ouch.

10. (Imagine having 10 beauty faux pas?) Gel eyeliner. need I say more? I have permanently gave up trying.

O wow, after writing and reading this I have realised that I need to do some brushing up on some of my beauty skills. Hmm yes, I'll do that sometime... Comment with which points you can relate with (if any!)

Much love,

  1. 4 and 8 are my worst ones too. Especially squeezing my spots. And then any concealer applied looks dry and cakey but you can't possibly just leave the spot because it looks even worse, can't win!

  2. Your right! The things we have to put up with haha

  3. Funny you should mention cutting your own fringe! Recently a few days before my birthday i decided to cut my own fringe because I couldn't be bothered to go to the salon just to get my fringe cut alone. I've done it before but it had been aaaages since the last time I cut it myself. But seriously it was a disaster! The next day I went to the hairdressers and got it sorted out..and it only cost me £2! So I've decided that next time I'll just leave it to the experts...

    1. I know it's a disaster! Be better just going to the hairdressers in the first place to save all the stress! haha

  4. Oh yes, red lipstick can make a girl feel so glamorous, but putting it on is such a pain!! Very high maintenance too, as a perfectionist it will take me around 10 minutes to get it right! Next time, I'll go for the sheer lip butters!
And I'm guilty of popping those pimples, I know it's bad but I can't help it!

    1. I'm the same! It takes me a while to put it on and it's difficult to get red lippy looking nice and neat.

  9. I loved this post! Really fun to read. I am in complete agreement with the gel liner! I can't cope with it. What's so bad about liquid anyway? I also used to be wayyy over the top with kohl eyeliner, ending up with black rings around my eyes after a few hours and looking somewhat ill. That is until I discovered the magical Clinique Bottom Lash mascara. Wondrous. Banished the black rings and all is good with the world.

    Followed via Bloglovin :)
