How I Organise my MakeUp and Skincare

Acrylic Makeup Organiser

Evenin' everyone!

This is a post that I've been wanting to do for a quite a while but I couldn't seem to get the time to clean everything before I got the camera out!

Now there are no guesses as to how I organise my makeup, and by the looks of Instagram and Pinterest, it seems like every other makeup obsessed girl can't be without her acrylic organisers...

I used to buy big vanity cases out of Primark for all my makeup (at £4/£5 a piece they were good value), but there were two things wrong with these...

1. I found that they got dirty quickly as powders and eyeshadows either leaked or smashed due to the way they were 'thrown' in on top of each other.

2. I could never see what I owned so makeup at the bottom of the bag never saw daylight and therefore went a bit off and yucky. What a way to throw away money right?

After scrolling through every makeup related hashtag on social media I quickly realised that these bags were no longer 'the way to go' and people were starting to buy plastic organisers so you could have all (or your most used) makeup in one place where it can easily be seen.

After searching high and low for organisers with the right layout I wanted, I found that eBay, Amazon and TK Maxx had the best selection. Personally my favourite is TK Maxx as you can actually see it for size and quality and they have a great selection if you hit it on the right day.

When picking acrylic organisers I would recommend that you have a look through your makeup drawer and pick out your everyday makeup pieces as well as those products that have been buried and forgot about but you want to start using them again (everyone has them!). That way you can see what you have the most of so you can pick the right shape and size accordingly. For example, if you have a bigger selection of foundations you may need larger compartments, if you are a lipstick horder you might need to look for an organiser with smaller, equal sized compartments that holds all your lipsticks. I actually use 4 organisers and in total I have 30 lipstick slots which is more than enough for me!

So what about your brushes? Again, Instagram and Pinterest have influenced me here and I'm sure you have seen these before... IKEA flower pots are the answer! For less than £5 these are so pretty with their decorative tops. I bought myself a light green one but it has been thrown aside at the moment. I wandered into TK Maxx a few months ago and wandered out with the organiser below. What do you think? I love it as it holds ALL my brushes at a squeeze so none are forgotten at the bottom of a drawer.

For my pencils, whether that would be eyeliners, lip liners or brow pencils I simply use a tin tray. I got this little 'Paris' one when I was in France for a couple of euro - storage really doesn't have to be expensive!

And below is what all this looks like in the 'makeup' drawer! I know a lot of people like their organisers to sit out on display in their room but I have a bit of an obsession with clean and tidy worktops and tables so I only have one that sits out on my sink! I got units specially made for my makeup and skincare so I could have it all in the once place which really helps to keep everything tidy...

The only problem with these organisers is that they get dirty with powders and eyeshadows very quickly and you can definitely see the dirt on them! In that regard they are quite high maintenance and difficult to clean. If you can't be bothered with the bother then you can get beautiful wicker baskets in different shapes and sizes (again, you'll find heaps of these in TK Maxx) which you can place in your drawers to separate everything into compartments.

Apologies for the super photo-heavy post but I hope this gives you some ideas of how you can organise your makeup and skincare so you can maximise your space. Tweet me @EmmaLouRose_ox with your thoughts - I'd love to hear from you!
